January 8th, 2012 would have been my dad's 60th birthday. A couple of really great things happened because of this big event. The first is that my saintly mother decided many months before hand that she would prepare 60 names to have ordinances done in the temple. All of the names were from my dad's genealogical line. We planned an adult temple night where some baptisms for the dead were performed, and some confirmations were done. A few weeks later, we planned another night for sealing ordinances and it was an incredible night with some of dad's friends and our little family. I am so grateful to my mom for thinking of doing something so appropriate for the occasion.
While I knew mom was planning her big celebration, I had an idea of my own. Each of my dad's grandchildren would perform some random acts of kindness in their grandpa's honor. SIXTY random acts of kindness, to be exact. We would take pictures, and then compile a book of all that the kids did. When we had our adult dinner after our first temple night, we presented the book to my mom. I am so proud of all that the kids did! Here's some of the pictures from my own kids.
The boys shoveled the driveways of two of our neighbors.
We visited a widow and changed her battery in her 2nd story smoke detector.
Taba smiled at people!
We bought some lunch for some Elders at the Burger King.
Tabitha and Hyatt gave out balloons to a bunch of little kids at the Wally World.
We picked up garbage along some main streets in our town.
Daxton and Brandon fixed some fences in our neighborhood.
The kids made some donations to the Church temple fund.
It was amazing to think of my dad so much and to feel like we could do something to celebrate. We sure miss you dad! ALL of us miss you so much.
